Yesterday there was the historic Obama's speech in Cairo.
I was very impressed, even beyond its political and cultural value, because it is a rare example of a speech - regardless of its beauty and potenza retorica - possa essere sostanza. Parlare all'altro, parlargli in casa sua, da uguali, con un linguaggio e con simboli che possono essere condivisi, non è un atto retorico: è un fatto che genera di per sè conoscenza reciproca, che abbatte di per sè barriere e pregiudizi. Cito tutto questo perchè Obama, senza negare se stesso e la sua cultura, compie secondo me un atto fondamentale: mostra coi fatti all'altro di essere disposto ad ascoltarlo, ad imparare da lui. Non a rinunciare ai propri prncipi, ma di essere disposto a confrontarli con quelli altrui, a metterli alla prova del nove, a vederli con gli occhi dell'altro per vedere even if they hold well. I reflected on all this last night while watching the program on LA7 Otto & 1 / 2 dedicated to the historic event. And I must admit, I really fell in his arms.

E che alla domanda “la condizione delle donne nei paesi islamici è estremamente dura e secondo molti in occidente la colpa è dell’Islam” risponde “spesso è vero, anche se non sempre…ma lo è anche la condizione di molti uomini”.
Sembra dire: nella giustizia, come nell’ingiustizia, siamo insieme.
